IDS has been developing and producing products for industrial image processing since 1997. With technological foresight and a keen sense for future developments, IDS consistently adapts key future technologies from the consumer world to make them suitable for industrial use: IDS made the USB interface industry-compatible for the camera sector. With the latest innovation IDS NXT, the complete system for the use of intelligent cameras  to make it easier to access AI-based image processing.

Ensenso N Series for 3D-Vision

The Ensenso 3D cameras from IDS represents a solution for 3D image capture that is impressively precise, cost-efficient and fast.Ensenso N, C, X and XR cameras work according to the stereo vision principle.

Supported by a powerful projector, high-contrast textures are projected onto the object to be imaged, creating even more detailed 3D point clouds even at long distances. The Ensenso S series uses an alternative 3D method with structured laser light, which enables a cost-efficient and more compact camera design. This allows the advantages of three-dimensional object information to finally be used in price-sensitive, high-volume projects, where the highest accuracy of Ensenso Stereo Vision models is often not required.

2D colour information from an RGB sensor (C series) provides 3D point clouds with colored texture and realistic 3D visualisations. In addition, the colour data enables further processing steps in subsequent tasks, such as the differentiation or sorting of colored objects.

The lockable GPIO connectors for trigger and flash also make all models suitable for industrial use. For particularly high demands on robustness, both Ensenso N3x and Ensenso N4x 3D camera series are available with IP65/67 protection class and thus protected against dirt, dust, splash water or cleaning agents.

The aluminium housing of the N3x models ensures optimum heat dissipation of the electronic components and thus a stable light output even under extreme environmental conditions. This ensures the consistently high quality and robustness of the 3D data. The metal construction also allows a very flexible and robust mounting of the CMOS sensors with vergence angles of 2° to 10°, which makes it possible to realise application scenarios with very short object distances.

Ensenso N4x Series

The completely decoupled 3D stereo electronics of the new N4x series allows the use of a lightweight plastic composite as housing material, which makes it possible to manufacture the 3D camera family more cost-effectively.The reduced weight also makes Ensenso N4x models applicable to collaborative robotic arms, whose driving forces are limited to protect the human colleague. The haptics of the plastic surface and rounded edges also help to minimise injuries.

Ideal Applications

3D object recognition, classification & localization, e.g. quality assurance, commissioning
3D object reconstruction
Factory automation
Robot applications, e.g. bin picking or collaborative tasks
Conveyor belt equipping
Logistics automation. e.g. (De-)Palletizing
Automatic storage systems

TM Plug&Play

The Ensenso N3x 3D cameras are “TM Plug&Play” certified by Techman Robot. Users can simply connect these 3D cameras with TM Robot’s IPC and start using the 3D bin picking application without the need to develop their own image processing application. This saves valuable development and integration time.

Ensenso SDK

Cameras of the Ensenso N camera family are easy to set up and operate via the Ensenso SDK. In addition to wizards for easy setup and camera calibration support for the 3D cameras, it also includes GPU-based image processing for even faster 3D data processing. One software package (Ensenso SDK for Windows and Linux) for all Ensenso models MVTec HALCON, C, C++ and C# sample programs with source code Output of a single 3D point cloud with data from all cameras used in multi-camera mode Live composition of the 3D point clouds from multiple viewing directions Robot hand-eye calibration Integration of uEye industrial cameras, for example, to capture additional color information or barcodes.

Ensenso PartFinder allows you to load your own CAD geometries and locate them in the point clouds of your Ensenso 3D cameras. Through the combined use of depth information, surface normals and texture data, even tricky localisation tasks can be solved. The PartFinder functionality is included in the normal NxLib, however, you need a separate licence to use it.
